Greetings, You are seeking a challenge. No,
this isn't the vague, rather innocuous "fortune" that you may receive
when you put a quarter in a mechanical fortune-telling machine.
It is an observation about you. Visiting this site is an active
demonstration of your interest in an academic challenge. The Dr.
Robert C. Weber Honors Program (RCWHP) at Edinboro University of
Pennsylvania can offer you such a challenge. Our
interdisciplinary program is supported by our stellar faculty
members. Interested in a wide range of topics within their own
disciplines, they understand the importance of critical analysis and
the quest for knowledge. Our faculty are dedicated to the mission
of the RCWHP and are exceptionally able to impart their knowledge in
our small classroom settings. Our students too, have a
wide range of interests and experiences. Interests include study
abroad, researching the roles of women in science fiction, researching
small businesses in northwest Pennsylvania, creating original
documentary film work on gender roles & cheerleading and
participation in an internship in forensic pathology. My
own philosophy regarding Honors Programs hinges on the concept of
“renaissance.” A student who enrolls in honors
courses and participates in honors programs should earn a rigorous,
well-rounded education in a quest to become the quintessential
renaissance wo/man. I have been on four sides of the honors
experience. As a student, I appreciated the challenges of the
honors classes in which I was enrolled. As an administrator I
have been fortunate to be a part of the planning and inaugural years of
two residential high schools for mathematics and science, serving high
achieving students. As a university & college administrator,
I worked with honors students in student affairs and residence life,
and, now, as a professor, I teach honors students. These
experiences have all led me to my current philosophy. Whether
you are a current student deeply involved in the work of your major, or
a prospective student, in the throes of decision about your next step,
I’d like to encourage you to be, or to become, an active part of
your own academic process. You can with the Dr. Robert C. Weber
Honors Program. Welcome to the Renaissance. Dr. Rhonda Matthews, Director
