Journal Request Form
What does the Acquisitions Department do?
The Acquisitions Department places orders for books and A-V materials. The Collection Development Librarian works closely with faculty and library liaisons to select
and acquire materials that meet the demands of the curriculum and support student research. Orders for serials/periodicals are coordinated through our Serials
Librarian Christine Troutman. Click here to view/print a Journal Subscription Request Form.
Where is the Acquisitions Department located?
The Acquisitions Department is located in the Technical Services Office on the first floor, behind the Reference stacks, Room 105. The general office extension
number is 732-2738.
How can I find new books and videos in my subject area?
Use the New Books tab when searching PILOT to find books acquired in your subject area
over the last week, month or year. You can search New Books by subject or call number range.
How can faculty place orders for books and/or A-V materials?
Faculty and staff can place orders for materials by using the preprinted book/A-V order cards available in the Acquisitions Department. You may also request to have
a supply sent to your office via campus mail. Please submit catalogs with your requests for A-V materials. You should indicate any special instructions on the bottom
of the order card, such as “Rush/Reserve” or “Needed to support new program,” “Please notify me when in,” and so on. Order requests should be given to the
librarian assigned to your department who will submit your order(s) for you.
What resources are available for identifying potential orders?
The Acquisitions Department maintains files of publisher catalogs, A-V catalogs, foreign language vendor catalogs, and textbook publisher catalogs. Issues of two
book review journals -- Booklist and CHOICE -- are also housed in Acquisitions. You can also access
Books In Print from any networked computer on-campus. This resource offers enhanced search capabilities including keyword searching, combined
searches, and publisher/keyword searching. It can also be useful in identifying potential textbooks for course adoption, as well as for identifying curriculum-related
instructional materials. Reviews are provided for many of the titles featured in the database. For other source of information, please speak with the
librarian assigned to your department.
