Located to the left as you enter the library, the Circulation Desk is responsible for the circulation of all library materials,
including course reserves.
How do I sign out materials?
EUP faculty, staff and students must present their EUP ID card to check out materials. EUP ID cards are issued through the University Center and must be valid.
What if I’m not affiliated with the University?
Residents of Erie, Crawford, and Warren counties are eligible to receive a library card. There is no fee. But, you must present a valid photo ID along with proof of
current residence before a card will be issued to you.

Can I renew items?
Yes. The only exception is when another patron has a hold on an item. Otherwise, you may renew items as often as you like.
How do I renew an item?
You can either stop by in-person or call the Circulation Desk (814-732-2273). You can also renew items by accessing the PATRON button on
PILOT.
What is a ‘hold’?
If the book you want is signed-out, you may place a hold on it so that the person with the book cannot renew it. As there may be several holds prior to yours,
you will be contacted as soon as the book is available.
Is there a limit to the number of items I can sign out at one time?
No. You’re welcome to sign out as many items as you like.
Where do I return items?
During normal operating hours, you may return items to the Circulation Desk or place them in the book drop as you exit the building. A courtesy drop box is available
just outside the exit if you wish to return items when the library’s not open. Please do not place non-printed items (e.g. videos) in the book return as the items
may get damaged.
What if I return items late?
There is a seven day grace period for overdue materials before you will receive any fines. After that, fines become retroactive to the original due date. Overdue
charges for library materials are $0.15 per book, per day.
What is a ‘recall’?
From time to time, we must recall an item. This means you must return the item as soon as possible and cannot renew it.
What is a ‘reserve’ item?
Course reserves are generally items used by a specific class or group.
Reserve materials are housed behind the Circulation Desk and are shelved alphabetically by professor’s last name or by Library of Congress call number.
What are the loan periods for reserve items?
Faculty may place items on reserve as library use only (3 hr. limit), overnight, three days and seven days. Items that are not returned by the time specified will incur
library fines.
What are the fines for overdue reserve items?
Fines vary depending on the loan period and the amount of time they are overdue.
Do non-printed items circulate?
To learn which items are currently available to circulate, loan periods, and so forth, please visit or call the Audio-Visual Materials Room office at 814-732-2273.
What about interlibrary loan items?
When picking up interlibrary loan items, please alert the Circulation Desk staff as you exit so that you don’t set off the library’s alarm. Likewise, alert the staff when
returning these items so they are notaccidentally shelved in our library. Loan periods and fines for these items vary by item and by the lending institution.
What’s a ‘Vendacard’?
A Vendacard enables you to make copies at $0.07/page rather than the normal $0.10. You may purchase a card using the machine at the end of the Circulation
Desk.
Can I still make copies without a Vendacard?
Yes. The only exception is when another patron has a hold on an item. Otherwise, you may renew items as often as you like.
What if I lose or damage an item?
All patrons are responsible for replacement fees for lost or nonreturned items. Charges will be based on the current price for the item plus a $5.00 processing fee.
What is a ‘block’?
Unpaid fines and/or excessive overdue books will result in a loss of borrowing privileges which "blocks" your account from use until the problem is resolved.
What if I have unresolved charges?
Unresolved charges will be turned over to the Bursar’s Office for collection. In turn, this will result in a block on future class registrations, transcript requests, and
graduation until the accrued fees have been paid.
