Instructions for Remote Access to Library Resources
Contact: Information Desk, 814-732-2253
Off-site access to the library's electronic information resources is limited to current students, faculty, and staff of
Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. To gain access, you must have a valid EUP ID card and access to the World Wide Web.
How do I access databases from off-campus?
While most are, not all resources the library offers are accessible from off-campus (i.e. a computer not on the EUP network).
Likewise, access requires a valid EUP ID number. For resources that are available remotely, access is a 3-step process:
STEP ONE: Select a database
Use either our annotated or
non-annotated
page to select a resource. Again, keep in mind that not all electronic resources are accessible from off-campus. Likewise, licensing issues sometimes block access to
specific articles, issues, or even titles -- particularly "Linked Full Text" titles.
Along those lines, also watch for pop-up window notifications. Some
software treats the login screen (see below), the database, and/or results'
screens as pop-ups and you won't be able to do anything until you enable
pop-ups. It is safe to do so as databases are housed on secure sites so
you don't have to worry about ads and other pop-ups showing-up on your screen.
STEP TWO: Authentication screen
Once you've clicked on a resource, you will be taken to a screen that looks like
the following. You can use either of the login boxes to gain access.
Both methods are explained below. However, within the next year or so, all
14 PASSHE institutions will be migrating to a single-sign on procedure.
From that point forward, you will have a single sign-on for your network
account, email, library resources, and so on. If you have problems getting to this
screen or otherwise accessing the resource, please call the Information Desk at 814-732-2253.
STEP THREE: Logging-in
Method #1 - Library ID Logon (left box)
This is the traditional method. Once you're at the login screen, enter your library identification as follows. If you do not enter your identification properly, you will not be able to access the
resource.
- Your first initial (NOT case sensitive)
- the last 8 digits of your Banner ID#; do NOT use the "@" symbol
- Your last initial (NOT case sensitive)
- Your last name
- Please Note: Your "Banner ID" is your student number
issued to you by Edinboro University. You must have this to access these databases!
Example: If your name is Joan Smith and your banner ID is @00123456, the library identification you
would type in would be:
j00123456s
Method #2 - Username/Password Logon (right box)
From the drop-down list of institutions, select Edinboro University
of PA. Enter the username and password you use to access the campus network.
Note: if you haven't logged-on to the campus network in a while, you may need to
reset your password and/or have your entire account reset at the HelpDesk in
Ross Hall.
If you have any questions or continue experiencing problems accessing a resource
remotely, please contact the
Information Desk at (814) 732-2253.
