Edinboro University recognizes the importance in providing opportunities for prospective teachers to have experience working with students and faculty in the public school prior to student teaching.  Provisions are made to enable all students to have this experience during the junior year of study.  The University has excellent working relations with many local schools and is able to provide the student with a wide range of experiences.

SEDU575 Secondary Field Experience

This course is designed to provide Secondary Education majors with a pre-student teaching field experience.  Students are encouraged to enroll in this course during the junior year of studies.  Each student is placed with a cooperating teacher in the public schools and provided with a variety of experiences.  Students are also required to teach a minimum of 10 full-period lessons or 7 block lessons throughout the semester and complete a variety of professional development activities.  Each student must obtain teacher candidacy to enroll.  In addition, students must complete SEDU565, SEDU571, SEDU572, SEDU573 or SEDU574 with a grade of C or better.

Application

Students must attend a Field Experience orientation meeting the semester prior to enrolling.  At this orientation, an application for Field Experience is filled out by the teacher candidate and all requirements, such as clearance forms and TB screening, are explained.  This is a very important meeting for Field Experience applicants.
