Student teaching represents the culmination of the program of professional preparation. It is an important requirement for the degree, Bachelor of Science in Education. Undergraduate candidates must complete 12 semester hours of student teaching under the supervision of a professor in the Secondary Education Department.
Student teaching is a full-time activity in which students are given experience in most of the activities a classroom teacher might encounter. The student is expected to devote full time and energies to the student teaching assignment. Careful planning is necessary on the part of students during the first three years of their college careers in order that their assignments can be completed on schedule. Student teaching is to be scheduled during the student's senior year or, in the case of graduate students seeking teacher certification, after completion of all certification coursework.
