Mission of the Program:

The mission of the Master of Social Work Program is to prepare students with professional knowledge, values and skills for advanced social work practice providing services to families, and with a commitment to social and economic justice, empowerment of oppressed and at-risk populations, appreciation of the strengths of diversity, and as contributors to their communities and profession as lifelong learners.

Program Description:

The Social Work Department offers a program leading to a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree.  This program prepares students for advanced social work practice with families.  It can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis.  Qualified applicants who have received a baccalaureate in social work degree within the last five (5) years from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) may be considered for Advanced Standing.

The MSW degree program is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

Program Requirements:

A minimum of sixty (60) graduate credits is required for completion of the degree.  Students must maintain a cumulative QPA of 3.0 or better.  A maximum of six (6) semester hours of "C" grades will be accepted toward the degree.  Students enrolled full-time in the program complete requirements in two (2) academic years (four semesters).  Students enrolled part-time in the program complete requirement in four (4) academic years (eight semesters).  Normal entry into the program is in the fall.  Courses must be completed in sequence.  No credit is given for life or work experience or by examination.
