Edinboro University implements a print quota to control usage of consumable resources such as paper, toner and life cycles of our printing resources. Currently print quotas are enforced on all student accounts on a majority of computer lab printers. All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to understand how to print only the pages needed on any printer to help reduce waste and wasted resources.
Students are allocated 150 pages at the beginning of each Fall semester and are given an additional 150 pages at the beginning of each Spring semester. We do not increase the quotas during the summer semesters but we do allocate 150 pages for all new students during the summer. All student account quotas are removed at the end of the summer and reset to 150 pages. Our statistics show that less than 10% of all students print more than 150 pages during one semester. A web-based tool has been created to allow any student access to their current available quota as well as options to increase their quota any time. To access this web site, click on this Print System Management link and login with your full email address and password (i.e. j123456d@edinboro.edu).
Please note that the current cost per page for printing to printers within the print quota system is .04 cents for each black & white page and $1.00 for each color page printed.
Printing from Wireless Access
Edinboro University offers the capability to print to 8 different printers on the print quota system. This is limited to 8 due to the license of the Printer-On software application that has been purchased with student technology fee funds. As usage dictates, this number may increase in the future. Printer-On is a web based utility that allows Edinboro University students, staff, and faculty the ability to print from their personal wireless computers to any of these 8 campus lab printers :
- Ross Stirling Lab
- Library 1st Floor Lab (B&W)
- Library 1st Floor Lab (Color)
- Towers Lab
- Dearborn 1st Floor Lobby
- Rose 1st Floor Lobby
- Meadville Lab
- Porreco Barn Lab
Printer-On offers two modes of printing (Using a PrintWhere driver or Web Printing).
- We recommend that students using Microsoft Windows download the PrintWhere driver (click "Download PrintWhere for Windows") and install it on their system. Once this driver is installed, you can configure the driver to print to one of the printers listed above by selecting the PrintWhere driver from the choice of printers and selecting properties where you can search for an Edinboro printer (click here for detailed instructions).
- Macintosh or non-Windows users have to use the Print From Web service option. The Print From Web service unfortunately only supports a limited number of file types such as Microsoft Office for Windows version 2003 or older, Office for Mac version 2004 or older, web pages, Open Office documents, PDF files and some other Adobe files such as Photoshop. Printer-On is currently working on compatibility with the current Microsoft Office 2007 for Windows file format and until they resolve this issue, you can save your Office 2007 documents as a 2003 document and print it through this service. If you have to print a file that is not supported by Printer-On, we recommend that you find a way to print it or save it as a "PDF" file first and then print this pdf file through the Print From Web service. To access the Print From Web service click on this Print-From-Web link (or point your browser to http://printer-on.edinboro.edu/cps/index.jsp), click on the PRINT button and login with your network account username. NOTE: do not enter "eup\" in front of your username, enter only your full username (i.e. J123456d) and your current network password. Once you have been authenticated, you can choose one of the printers listed and upload the document you wish to print. For assistance click on this Print From Web Instructions link.
Printer-On requires a valid university network account and enough page quota remaining in your account. If your access is denied please try resetting your password with S.C.O.T.S. Tools first and try again. If your printout fails to appear, please verifiy you are printing to the correct printer location and you have a sufficient quota balance within the Print System Management system.
